It looks like environmentalists are more interested in alternative energy than cap and trade. According to environmentalists as far as I know, cap and trade is just a money making scheme dreamed up by Enron traders and Wall Street in general. But if it is true that environmentalists don’t care for cap and trade and consider it pretty much fraud and want alternative energy instead, why does the right wing (who are pro Wall Street) oppose it so strongly?

I oppose it because it unfairly burdens this countries (it has NO effect on foreign companies) companies with which amounts to punitive taxes for nothing. This monstrosity will do NOTHING to reduce the amount of greenhouse emissions. It only states that IF you don’t reduce to this government mandated level (regardless of current technology that might possibly make it possible to reach in the first place) then you will pay fines. It will either take money from businesses who can not meet these mandates that will then be passed on to the consumer (anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves or lying to the rest of us) or cause that company to produce less to get within the limits, and in the process laying off workers and creating another class of people dependent on the government.
And then when the government runs into financial trouble, like say – now, they lower the limits and repeat the punitive cycle.
I’m not against finding new sources of energy. But cutting our nose off to spite our face is not the smartest thing in the world to do. We should keep doing what we are doing, but better if we can, and simultaneously research new sources of energy. It would not hurt my feelings to develop something other than oil and to simply leave the middle east. Within a few years they’ll be back to killing each other with rocks once the western money dries up.
Because the only goal of the right is tor protect the current power structure of the status quo as their media and blogs tell them to.
When a company reaches their "cap" they have to buy from another company, therefore they will pass that cost to us, we end up paying.
"alternative" aka magic energy is a joke, all cap and tax is about is money and control it will do nothing but make obama’s puppet masters billions
anyone who "feels" cap and tax is a good idea is either under 7 years old or mentally ill
Cap and trade is like taking a loaded gun to the economy and telling everyone involved that it’s for the best. To me, it’s not even an issue of environmentalism, it’s a matter hurting the economy. Sorry, but the economy comes first.
It’s just another tax that we do not need. And it will tax you for carbon emissions, huh.
If you love it so much, you can donate your paycheck to Hussein and Al Gore. Fuck off and leave the rest of us alone.
because taxes aren’t the solution.
When Barack Obama was on the board of the Joyce Foundation he they gave 1.1 million dollars to help set up the Chicago Climate Exchange. A large part of the exchange is owned by Global Warming alarmist Al Gore through his Generation Investment Management LLC.
The Chicago Climate exchange bills itself as North America’s first and only carbon credit exchange.
That’s the Trade part of Cap and Trade.
Al Gore, and dozens of other Democrats stand to make billions of Cap and Trade by getting a cut of every trade on their privately owned exchange.
Follow the money.
conservative need big SUV’s to move around,
have you seen the size of rush Limbaugh?
You make many assumptions like "the right wing is pro wall street".
You also make the assumption that environmentalists are the ones worried about cap and trade (I call it crap and tax) being a scheme and fraud. While some are, many ‘right wingers’ have been saying the same thing for quite some time. Some people are set to make bundles of $$$$$ if we get a mandatory cap and trade, so that’s why some corporations are behind it.
so, reasons the right wing are against cap and trade:
1. government mandated = no choice = bigger government (just like the bailouts, just like the health care bill).
2. global warming, as sold by the far left, is nothing more than a sham. That’s why Al Gore predicts the oceans will rise 20′ and then buys mansions on the beach. it’s the vehicle to get cap and trade passed which gives the government more power.
3. cap and trade will "necessarily skyrocket" energy prices (that’s a quote from Obama himself). ESPECIALLY, in the middle of a recession/depression, it’s not good for the economy or the country to make energy prices go through the roof. it’s worse when you’re doing it for a fairy tale.
4. There’s a difference between being ‘pro business’ and ‘pro big business take over’. The government doesn’t do anything efficiently or as well as private corporations. When it comes to ‘picking sides’ between big government and privatization, I’ll choose privatization almost every time.
5. A large part of cap and trade is to push alternative energy onto the country to avoid the high fees from your ‘carbon tax’. Yes, Enron wanted cap and trade because they saw $$$$. Same with Goldman Sachs, GE, and others.
Because we are not pro wall street. That is just a typical Liberal allegation. They say we are pro wall street or pro corporation because we do not think they should be OVER taxed or OVER regulated.
We think they should be taxed and they should be regulated it is the OVER part Liberals don’t seem to understand.
We understand that the more money you take from a business the less they can either pay in wages or the number of people they can hire or both thus making it harder for the economy to recover.
We don’t want Cap and Trade because it will raise the prices of energy way to much. I am actually surprised that Liberals support it in light of their support of Obamacare.
Cap and Trade will make it very hard for some people to pay their bills especially the elderly and disabled.
Cap and Trade will also make the cost of food and other goods sky rocket and that is especially bad in an economy like we have now.
Once we are forced to buy insurance and pay double or more on our utilities a I am not sure how many of us are going to be able to afford to live.
First you are buying into left wing media stereotyping of right wingers and their framing of the cap and trade argument. To set the record straight; the right is not Pro Wall Street, it is PRO Capitalism and we would greatly prefer that it wasn’t restricted to one particular street in the United States so that would make us far less "pro wall street" than the left. Next the framing of the Cap (Crap) and Trade argument as a pro wall street thing is silly. The right opposes it from two angles. 1. it puts America at a disadvantage by making it too costly to open industry here and create jobs during an era where labor costs and other environmental restrictions create and environment where companies have no incentive to create jobs in America and increase the trend towards overseas manufacture and higher imports of goods into the United States. That isn’t to say that the Right prefers high polluting industry, it simply wants to find a way to reduce emissions and create jobs and we don’t see Cap and Trade as a way. There are alternatives, I simply haven’t seen a leading one that doesn’t appear to have the same effect. Other countries like China and India will not impose the same restrictions and already make it very easy for industry to open manufacturing plants in their countries. American industry is not the major contributor to carbon dioxide emissions so while we have already made it galactically stupid to open a manufacturing plant in America why go and further punish the plants we have left that by global standards are among the cleanest in the world. Those companies will fail outright because they can no longer produce goods at competitive prices or they will close their operations here and move elsewhere and entire towns and cities will decay following the exodus (think Rust Belt on a national scale). No jobs, no property values, no tax revenue, pollution will be the least of our worries.
2. it creates yet another large level of government bureaucracy in place increasing the cost of government which is already too high. Why create a higher cost government to oversee the enforcement of laws that will result in lower tax revenue?
You answered your own question.
It is a fraud. It won’t reduce carbon emissions it will only make some traders rich while doing nothing for the environment and making energy more expensive for everyone.
Buying carbon credits doesn’t mean anyone will reduce emissions, they will just buy from people that are not producing carbon emissions. Poor countries will gain the most as long as they remain without electricity. That money won’t go to the people, it will go to their governments that will continue to live well while their people live in poverty. The middlemen will also get rich from commissions on the trading.
Right wing is pro free market.
Wall Street will make millions processing the transactions.
It is mostly GE, Al Gore, and others that will make billions on this legislation.
All the right/left, liberal/conservative, Democrat/Republican confusion is what makes it possible for the big money and their pals in Washington to implement the scams that bleed the working class dry. The Democrats are every bit as "pro Wall Street" as the Republicans, they just spin it differently. The real situation is the wealthy ruling class scarfing up money like a pack of hungry wolves and laughing all the way to the bank while the serfs argue with each other about which finger pointers are right about whatever BS they selling.
First, as our President told us, it would make personal and business energy costs skyrocket. His words, not mine. It will cripple the middle and lower classes, shut down businesses and make Al Gore a multi-billionaire. There’s plenty more, but isn’t that enough?
